Cristina Jandelli is Associate Professor in the Excellence Department SAGAS (History, Archaeology, Geography, Arts, Performing Arts) at the University of Florence, where she is President of the undergraduate course DAMS (disciplines of visual arts, performing arts and music). She teaches History of Cinema and Italian Cinema. She studies in particular the contribution to film given by actors, acting styles and stardom, with specific reference to the silent era and the Italian context, in which she explores also the relationship between film, gender history and girlhood cinematic representations. She wrote I ruoli nel teatro italiano fra Otto e Novecento (Roles in Italian Theater between XVIII and XIX Century, Le Lettere, 2002; CUE Press, 2016), La scena pensante. Cesare Zavattini fra teatro e cinema (Thinking Stage. Cesare Zavattini between Theater and Film, Bulzoni, 2002), Le dive italiane del cinema muto (Italian Divas in the Silent Era, L’Epos, 2006; CUE Press 2019). With Marsilio she published Breve storia del divismo cinematografico (Short History of Film Stardom, 2007), I protagonisti. La recitazione nel film contemporaneo (The Protagonists. Acting in Contemporary Cinema, 2013) e L’attore in primo piano. Nascita della recitazione cinematografica (Close-up on the Actor. The Birth of Film Acting, 2016), Premio Limina 2017 (best Italian book of cinema studies).
